Chi Omega Days Revisited
A family of 5 can only go so long without clean clothes. So, tonight was laundry night. I love my dear friend Gina dearly because she thinks so practically. This was one of the first things she asked me when we moved into hotel #2. How will you do laundry? Well, here's how it went . . .
I loaded up my arms with all the lights first, grabbed the room key that S was trying to stick in the tiny little slats on the wall heater, and headed off down the long hall, which has, incidentally, one turn after another. I waited for the single hotel lift to make it's way slowly up to our floor, and then headed down to the basement. I found yet another long hall that was eerily silent. At this point, I was having a true exercise in mind over matter. My mind was filling with thoughts of The Shining with Jack Nicholson and his family at that old, deserted hotel. I was waiting at any moment to lay my eyes on those terrifying twin little girls. Mind over matter . . . had to get a hold of myself! I finally found the laundry room, thoughts of "redrum" vanished as I saw a full-size washer unit. We have found that nothing in London is full-size. I got the laundry started and was on my way back up to our room. I was almost there, rounding the last turn when much to my dismay, I spot a pair of my "unmentionables" laying right in the middle of the hallway floor! How could that have happened? Did anyone else spot them? Why couldn't it have been one of the boy's pair of underwear? Then I recalled a similar scene years ago at the dear old Chi Omega house. I forgot the all-important lesson of always checking behind you when carrying your laundry through the long hall, down the stairs, and on through the chapter room (with that lovely green carpet) to make sure that nothing gets left behind!
