The first Regatta was held in 1839 and has been held annually ever since, except during the two world wars. It is held in Henley, a little town about 40 miles outside of London, because it has one of the longest straight stretches of the River Thames. The river in Henley is surrounded by beautiful, stately homes and picturesque rolling hills. In fact, we learned that the movie Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang was filmed just a bit further from the area where we watched the races.
We had a fabulous day watching world class rowers, observing English social customs and behavior, and toasting good times and good friends with a glass of Pimms!
