Our First Afternoon in DC

We left Philadelphia for DC and enjoyed a fantastic afternoon touring our United States Capitol after meeting with the Honorable Randy Neugebauer and his darling wife, Dana. She was a delightful tour guide and the boys (actually all of us!) were thrilled to get a behind the scenes look at Congressional life and work, boy what a job these men and women have. Many thanks to the Neugebauer family for having us!

The boys loved the underground tram connecting Congressional offices with the Capitol building

And I loved watching my boys descend the very steps each president has walked down on their way to being inaugurated, wow!

The National Statuary Hall

The Old Senate Chambers

The Capitol crypt, originally built to hold the remains of George Washington, however the construction was disrupted by the War of 1812 and then by the fire set by the British when they captured the city in 1814. By the time construction resumed, George Washington had died and his remains were buried at his family home in Mount Vernon.

This is what happens after a full day of sightseeing on top of car travel with 3 boys!
