On Island Time

Greg and Gil joined us in Maui and what a fantastic holiday we enjoyed together!

Gil went to the doctor right before he left Dallas and was cleared to swim, his first and only physical activity since the accident. We watched him like a hawk and I have to tell you, I don't think I have ever seen that boy happier! Every time we were at the beach, he would run out to the water, never looking back. He would swim out until the water reached just under his chin and then he would simply ride the waves, over and over and over again. He always faced outward, always watching the broad expanse of water before him. It seemed to us that Gil was contemplating a new appreciation and respect for the strength as well as the frailty of his human body. It was moving to observe.

Do you notice how he holds his hand just as it was held in the cast?

So happy to have all of my family back together! When we're not a whole, it is just not right!

Our dear friends the Fisks were in Maui for a family holiday as well. We spent a fabulous day with their family and had great fun catching up!

We met the Fisks for dinner the next evening at their hotel and so enjoyed our time together.

We spent time exploring the fun things to do and play at Robert and Linda's home while we were all there. The boys loved playing pickle ball and boy oh boy did these boys compete (how many times can I use "boy" in a sentence)!

There was much time spent on the golf course as well.

No trip to Hawaii would be complete with a luau! We ventured next door and enjoyed a fabulous traditional luau dinner with the Fish family, new friends from school that we bumped into on the beach earlier that day. What a fun evening we had with their family!

Sloan and Beck took their first surf lesson which I'm quite sure will not be their last . . . they were amazing! What fun it was to watch them try something new without even a hint of trepidation, if I could only handle myself in such a way! They were paired with a great instructor and were up on their boards with the first wave that rolled through. So proud of those two!

We loved our day spent on the Trilogy to Molokini and Turtle Town for snorkeling and diving, another fabulous family adventure made even more fun by their superb crew and instructors. Beck, Gil and Greg enjoyed the snorkeling while Sloan and I explored a little further under the water.

This boy is amazing! He took to diving like a fish takes to water (no pun)!

Gil was thrilled to get a dive in too, small steps to helping him feel whole once again!

We decided to take the boys over to Lanai for a night which is where Greg hosted his company trip earlier in the year. We had great fun showing them our favorites from this island as well!

And then back to our favorite spot, Wailea!

The boys asked me to look into schooling in Maui as they quite naturally took to island living!
