Independence Day in the UK

To say it's a bit odd celebrating your independence in the very country that your forefathers found unjust and unfair is an understatement! I have been grappling with this irony in my head far too much today. I wish that I were a journalist on days like today so that I could conduct my own interviews and inquire about any lingering feelings and pervasive attitudes towards Americans. People here definitely have stereotypes about us "Yanks", but don't we all?

Enough about that! Here are some photos of our 4th of July celebration at home:

We had the music on downstairs and S's song, God Bless the Broken Road, came on. I turned to look at G feeling emotional and nostalgic . . . and then I turned to look at S!

Happy 4th to you! Some additional irony. . . Callie's little friend that moved to Brussels recently wore his "Made in America" t-shirt I gave him and I thought how odd the Europeans probably thought that to be. . . especially given that his mother is British and helping him celebrate American Independence. Ha!
